A scene from "Trouble".
The audience began voting on the most favorite video clips on October 23. The top ten clips of the first week have just been announced. The two top clips of the two groups are the clips by pop star Dam Vinh Hung (group 1) and Uyen Linh (group 2).
However, rapper Karik’s “Trouble” ranks second in group 2. This has surprised many people. “Trouble” is the only rap song of the 24 video clips. The song mocks at the reverse of the showbiz. Before joining the Music Video Award, this clip was criticized as a “disaster” of Vietnam’s music since the song uses words of street and “aggressive” images to recall recent scandals of some singers.
Many online readers strongly protest this song. One with nickname Bambi2200 wrote that this song is a disaster when it compares some singers like Phi Thanh Van and Ung Hoang Phuc with animals like monkeys and dogs. “This song is so inhuman!” this reader added.
“This song is stupid, unfitting. The singer’s voice is so bad. It is ashamed to consider it for a music award. Why does this kind of music exist?” nickname hinhulu wrote.
Nguyen Thanh, from District 1, HCM City said: “I’m not picky in music, but this song is so bad because the lyric is so rude though it reflects the reality of Vietnam’s music.”
“I’m so sad!” singer Phi Thanh Van, who is mentioned in the song, said.
Apart from “rude” lyrics, this clip has sensitive scenes in which actors play half-naked or totally naked to feature characters who are mentioned in the song.
Despite of these problems, the song ranks second in group 2, which is in charge by Nguyen Quang Dung.
Rapper Karik said he had anticipated the situation. “I even worry that after my clip is spread widely, I would be scold or even attacked by those who disagree or from the people who are mentioned in the song,” he said.
The singer said that this may happen because some people do not adapt themselves with the new trend of the youth. That’s the need to show off themselves and the total truth.
He emphasized that despite any protest and criticism, he would continue to “speak out the truth.”

Rapper Karik.
“I like the song and the style of Karik very much but I did not believe that Karik could enter the top five. I was even afraid that this program would be closed when I chose this video clip,” Dung said.
Sub-editor of MTV Vietnam channel, Tri Quyen, said: “I think a music award, besides introducing popular singers and popular video clips, needs to discover new things. The unexpected ranking for ‘Trouble’ shows that many Vietnamese people like underground rap.”
All video clips are produced by singers and voted by the audience. Twenty four clips will compete in the next four weeks. The award ceremony will be held in mid-January 2012.
