Known for its picturesque setting and pleasant climate, the waterfall provides an ideal getaway during the summer months.
Located over 100 km from Hanoi, Mu Waterfall (in Mu Khuong Hamlet, Tu Do Commune, Lac Son District) is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Hoa Binh Province. It is especially popular in summer for its lush scenery and affordable, fun experiences.
According to the Hoa Binh Provincial Information Portal, Mu Waterfall was recognized as a provincial scenic spot in 2017. It is one of the province's beautiful natural waterfalls, attracting numerous visitors annually for sightseeing and exploration.
At the foot of the waterfall are gently sloping tiers and a large, clear blue pool formed by the erosion and flow of the stream. This area is a favorite among visitors for swimming and playing, offering a refreshing escape from the summer heat.
Khang Viet, a tourist from Hanoi, shared that he was highly impressed by the natural beauty upon his first visit to Mu Waterfall.
"Visiting in the summer, I felt the temperature drop by about 10 degrees Celsius compared to the capital, forgetting the scorching heat. Once at Mu Waterfall, you just want to forget the way back," he remarked.
Viet also mentioned that the journey to Mu Waterfall is quite convenient, with transportation accessible to the site. From the entrance, visitors walk a few hundred meters along a concrete path and stairs prepared by locals to reach the waterfall.
According to Viet, besides the large pool at the base of the waterfall, visitors can also swim in areas along the Mu stream.
The ideal time to visit is during summer, from May to September. During this period, the weather is cool and pleasant, and the waterfall has a large volume of cascading water, creating a magical atmosphere with its clean, clear pools.
At Mu Waterfall, in addition to swimming to cool off, visitors can camp, trek, and enjoy outdoor barbecues.
According to Mu Waterfall Tourism Cooperative—the entity managing the waterfall—the site has only been developed for tourism in recent years, so accommodation services are not yet highly developed.
Currently, overnight visitors can stay at several homestays designed like traditional stilt houses of the locals, located near Mu stream 1, 2, 3, with affordable rates ranging from 100,000 to 150,000 VND per person per night.
For day visitors, bringing a tent for camping by the waterfall is an option, allowing them to enjoy the scenery and have a barbecue. Alternatively, they can rent a local shelter for about 100,000 to 200,000 VND for resting and dining.
Visitors to Mu Waterfall also have the opportunity to enjoy delicious local specialties such as mountain snails, sticky rice, grilled chicken, pork, and forest bamboo shoots. These dishes can be ordered from nearby accommodations, prepared and served by locals at reasonable prices.
Mu Waterfall remains a destination that retains its wild and simple beauty. Therefore, visitors should be mindful not to litter or damage the natural landscape.
Lac Son District also offers other attractive tourist spots that visitors can explore during their trip to Mu Waterfall, such as Bai Bui Grassland, Green Grassland of Mien Doi, Thung Hill, and Nha Beach.
