On the journey to the central coastal province of Ninh Thuan, those curious about Cham culture should drop by My Nghiep brocade weaving craft village in Phuoc Dan Town, Ninh Phuoc District where tourists can get an insight into the long-held cultural and spiritual values.

The craft village is now home to 730 households with nearly 4,000 artisans holding on to the traditional occupation of weaving tho cam (brocade) by traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation.

There are more than 100,000 Cham people scattered around the country, but Ninh Thuan is their home with around 50,000.

When it comes to Ninh Thuan, My Nghiep brocade weaving village should be high on visitors’ agenda. My Nghiep Village was founded in the 17th century by a Cham woman and has been regarded one of the oldest craft villages in Southeast Asia.

One of the special features of the traditional village is that most artisans have still preserved original techniques handed down from their ancestors regarding materials, patterns and color combinations.
