World No. 2 Novak Djokovic extended his winning streak to 41 matches after his Romanian opponent Victor Hanescu retired due to injury mid of their French Open second round match.

Hanescu, 29 suffered a thigh injury during the match and decided to walk off the court while trailing 4-6, 1-6, 3-2.


It means that the 24-year-old Serb could put himself in joint 4th place for the longest winning streak with Roger Federer and Bjorn Borg. The record of 46 is held by Guillermo Vilas.


Djokovic will lock horns with Juan Martin Del Potro as the 25th seed from Argentina defeated Blaz Kavcic of Slovenia 6-3, 6-2 and 6-4 earlier.
