However, she became the first ever Vietnamese winner of a subordinate award “Beauty With A Purpose” thanks to her project “Light Up The Darkness,” which was carried out in Cu Vai Village, Xa Ho Commune, Tram Tau District in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai.

The project got underway in early October 2017 at a time when a tropical storm slammed into Yen Bai Province, leaving many areas isolated without telephone and wifi connectivity and electricity as well.

Despite facing numerous difficulties caused by the severe flooding, My Linh and her team still managed themselves to finalize the project to bring electricity to Yen Bai’s Cu Vai village on her 21st birthday.

My Linh earlier topped the online voting for Miss World 2017 on social media but she failed to win the People's Choice Award.

So far, 15 Vietnamese representatives have partaken in international beauty pageants and some of them have yielded outstanding results such as Mai Phuong’s top 20 Miss World 2002, Nguyen Thi Huyen’s top 15 Miss World 2004, Mai Phuong Thuy’s top 15 Miss World 2006, and Lan Khue’s top 11 Miss World 2015.
