Having no more job opportunities in Vietnam, Ngoc is considering leaving Vietnam for Japan to earn his living.

The well-known teacher spends most of his time on learning Japanese, the “work tool” he needs when working in Japan.

“No school gives me a job. There is no land for me to live. I have decided to learn Japanese to leave for Japan,” Ngoc explained to the reporters, who showed their surprise when seeing Ngoc learning Japanese.

In August 2006, after finishing the Bac Ninh Gymnastics University, he became a teacher of the Doi Ngo High School.

In early 2009, a group of ethnic minority students came to see Nguyen Ngoc Luu, who was then the Acting Headmaster of Doi Ngo School, to question why they could not receive the financial support from the State like the other poor ethnic minority students of other schools.

Prior to that, the students met Ngoc to consult with him about the state’s policy on the financial support for ethnic minority students.

Since then, the colleagues at Doi Ngo have been keeping a strange look at Ngoc.

Also in 2009, Ngoc was told to train the school’s sports team to participate a tournament organized by the Bac Giang provincial education and training department. But just some days before the tournament opening ceremony, the headmaster decided that the school would not participate in the competition.

Ngoc and his students still participated in the competition on the voluntary basis. “My students then won a lot of high prizes. But the rewards did not reach to them,” Ngoc said.

However, Luu later affirmed that it was him, who instructed the training and the competition of the sports team. In reply, Ngoc threatened to denounce Luu of telling a lie and requested Luu to pay back what the students deserved to get.

Later, in January of 2010, Luu suddenly turned up at a Luu’s lesson, expelled Ngoc from the school. One day later, Ngoc received a notice on terminating the labor contract.

Leaving Doi Ngo, Ngoc has been trying to apply for the jobs at many schools in Luc Nam district. However, he has been refused.

Feeling discouraged, Ngoc decided to leave for the south, where he worked for a mechanical engineering workshop. However, he could not resist the hard work and had to come back to Bac Giang province to work at a rice husking workshop.

In 2012, Ngoc provided video clips to competent agencies as the evidences of the exam cheating occurring at the Doi Ngo High School.

The six video clips, provided by Ngoc were made public in 2012. In August 2012, the Bac Giang provincial education department released a decision on dismissing and punishing 42 officers and teachers who got involved in the case.

At that time, Ngoc was hailed as a hero for his courage of exposing illegal activities. However, he has to pay a heavy price for the “hero” title.
