VietNamNet Bridge –Young cyclist Le Van Dong won the third stage of the Mekong Delta Cycling Tour-An Giang Plant Protection Cup yesterday, Aug 16.

Dong from Can Tho City and Dang Ngoc Tu of Dong Nai conquered this 110km stage from Kien Giang Province's Rach Gia City to Ca Mau province's Ca Mau City without their teams' support for the last 50km.

Dong overcame Tu to complete the stage in 2hr 38m and 52sec to finish first with a top speed of 41.544kph.

Nguyen Truong Tai of Domesco Dong Thap, who won the second stage on Monday, continued to hold the yellow jersey for the best overall time of 6:23.21 after three stages. Ho Huynh Van An of An Giang Plant Protection 2 and Vo Phu Trung of An Giang Plant Protection 1 came second and third respectively.

The green jersey award for best finish was a fight of supremacy between Tai and An.

No cyclists took the lead at this stage of the race but Sai Gon Plant Protection 1 lead the team race with a combined time of 19:11.39, followed by An Giang Plant Protection 1 and Sai Gon Plant Protection 2.

Today, cyclists face the fourth 207km stage from Ca Mau City to Hau Giang Province's Vi Thanh town.

The 947km tour attracted the participation of 100 riders from 20 teams nationwide. They will compete in a total of eight stages from An Giang to Vinh Long Province.

A total of US$12,000 will be presented to the winners of the tournament.
