VietNamNet Bridge – A baby elephant was discovered dead in a ditch in the field of a local family at the La Nga Forestry Farm in Thanh Son commune, Dinh Quan district, Dong Nai province on Monday, March 23.

The case was quickly reported to the authorities. After receiving information, local forces quickly blocked the area to examine the scene and the elephant.

The elephant was about five years old, weighing about 80kg. It died at about 8 pm on March 22.  

The animal’s head was tilted deeply in the ditch. Its skin and four toenails were taken by someone.

It is highly possible that the elephant was in distress while looking for food, forest rangers said, adding that they did not find any wound caused by traps or bullets on the elephant body.

The authorities are still investigating the cause of death.
