The 1,000 beer boxes were taken away in just 30 minutes after the accident.

The incident occurred at the Tam Hiep roundabout in the city of Bien Hoa city, the southern province of Dong Nai on December 4.

Colonel Tran Tien Dat, director of the Office of Dong Nai Police Agency, said yesterday that the police were investigating the case. Many similar cases happened in many provinces in Vietnam and this is the first case investigated by the police.

Dong Nai police have collected some evidence and seized some beer boxes.

With the evidence gathered, the police will consider taking prosecution against the acts of property appropriation. For those who involved in the case, if the assets are valued at VND2 million ($100) or more, they will be handled under the Criminal Law. If the goods value is under VND2 million, they will be fined.

The belated remorse

The “beer robbery” case in Bien Hoa has been strongly criticized by the media and the online community.

Three days after the incident, someone hung a banner with the comment "As a resident of Bien Hoa City, a Vietnamese, I feel ashamed for those who robbed a few beer boxes here at noon on December 4 at the Tam Hiep roundabout.”

The banner author was then defined as a female student from the FPT University and her father.

The photos of this special banner were posted on facebook and attracted thousands of comments.

Many “beer robbers" felt remorseful for their actions. Mrs. Nguyen Hong H., from Tam Hoa ward, Bien Hoa city, said: "Now I feel terribly shame and regret for taking beer that day. I just wish to see the driver again to apologize and pay back the beer I took..."

She said that day she was on the way home. Seeing many people rush to take the beer, she did not think much and joined them to rob beer. She took home a beer box and showed it to her husband.

"I thought that my husband would be glad for the free beer but he scolded me. He said that such behavior was unethical. I "robbed" of the driver and that man would have to compensate for the beer company,” Hanh said.

“I was so thoughtless and completely wrong!” H said remorsefully.
