VietNamNet Bridge – Two players of Dong Tam FC was offered $2,500 to commit match fixing before the game between Dong Tam and Tay Ninh in the 17th round of the First Division Tournament, on May 12.

According to the report, several hours before the game, Dong Tam FC’s player Vo Nhat Tan received a phone call from Tay Ninh FC’s Nguyen Thanh Trung, who suggested paying Tan $2,500 to commit match fixing.

During the call, Trung said that Dong Tam could not jump to the V-League next year while Tay Ninh needs more points to stay with the First Division Tournament 2013.

This player confirmed that Tay Ninh FC “had bought” referees and some players of Dong Tam had agreed to commit match fixing.

Shortly after that, another player of Dong Tam, Nguyen Thanh Hai, also received a similar call from Trung. The call was recorded.

Tan, Hai, captain Van Giau and vice coach Quang Sang reported the case to Dong Tam FC’s managing director Vo Thanh Nhiem.

Nhiem called the chief organizer Nguyen Huu Bang and the Vietnam Professional Football JS Company (VPF), which runs the V-Leage and the First Division Tournament to ask them for changing referees. However, as the game was very near, it was unable to change referees.

Mr. Bang asked match supervisors to keep a close watch on referees. Actually, referees did a good job.

The game finished 1-0, with Dong Tam as the winner. The only goal was scored at the 32nd minute by Antonio Pereira Pina Neto.

Tay Ninh FC is now at the bottom of the ranking list, with 10 points after 17 games. Dong Tam Long An has 24 points, ranking 8th.
