VietNamNet Bridge - Nguyen The Dung, chairman and CEO of the State-owned Dong Thap Oil and Gas Trading Company (Petimex) was arrested on August 27 for investigation of smuggling.
Sources from the Ministry of Public Security said that Dung will be in custody for four months to serve investigation.
According to initial reports, Dung smuggled nearly 6,000 tons of oil of various types, worth more than $6 million since 2012. The trick that this official used is importing oil in the form of temporary import for re-export and then selling it to other countries.
Related to this case, on August 23, the police prosecuted a man named Vi Van Dung (in Quang Ninh province) on charges of abusing trust to appropriate property and smuggling.
On May 5, 2012, Vi Van Dung bought 975 tons of diesel from Petimex and then carried out the procedures for temporary import for re-export to sell the oil to China.
Currently the case is being investigated by the Investigate Security Agency of the Ministry of Public Security.
