VietNamNet Bridge – Young cyclist Do Tuan Anh of Domesco Dong Thap 1 won the fifth and final stage while Le Van Duan of Sai Gon Plant Protection 1 won the overall yellow jersey of the "Return to the Roots" race yesterday, May 19.


Skillful Anh overcame Mai Nguyen Hung from Sai Gon Plant Protection 1 to win the stage which he clocked a top speed of 37.035 km/h during the 121km stage from Bac Can to Cao Bang Town. He completed the event in three hours, 16 minutes and two seconds.


Anh's team-mate, Nguyen Truong Tai, came to third.


Although Duan, who won the 41km prologue race at Hoan Kiem, didn't rank in the stage's top three, he retained the yellow jersey (best overall time) with a total time of 11:24.35 after five stages. Tai and Anh of Domesco Dong Thap 1 were second and third, respectively.


The red jersey award as the King of Mountain went to young talent Le Ngoc Son of Domesco Dong Thap 1 after he gained a total score of 55.


Gaining an additional 15 points after finishing second in the last stage, Hung took the green jersey with a total point of 71 as the best sprinter, while the white jersey went to Tran Thanh Nhanh as the best young rider.


With an outstanding performance, Domesco Dong Thap won the team prize with a combined time of 34:15.27, with Sai Gon Plant Protection 1 and An Giang Plant Protection runners-up.


More than 70 cyclists from 12 top clubs nationwide pedalled the five-stage competition concluded yesterday.


The race, which was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to celebrate the 121st birthday of late President Ho Chi Minh, passed through Ha Noi, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Bac Can and Cao Bang provinces.
