Dong Thap invests in infrastructure development with a focus on developing transport infrastructure connecting with neighboring areas and Cambodia to create motivation for the border areas such as Hong Ngu canal - Vinh Hung, roads DT.841, DT.842, DT.843.

Dong Thap province has a border more than 50km with Pray Veng province (Cambodia) with 7 border gates, including 2 international border gates and 5 secondary border gates.

Recently, on the basis of the cooperation agreement between the Governments of Vietnam and Cambodia, the two provinces have strengthened their traditional relationship, solidarity, friendship, and comprehensive cooperation, contributing to maintaining political security, social order and safety and socio-economic development in the border areas between the two sides.

To develop the socio-economic development of the border areas, the 11th Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee issued Conclusion No. 245-KL/TU dated November 23, 2021 on regional socio-economic development in the border areas in the period of 2021 - 2025.

Accordingly, the province advocates building the border area in the direction of connection in accordance with development requirements and implementation resource capacity; Investing in infrastructure development with a focus on developing transport infrastructure (roads, waterways) connecting with neighboring areas and Cambodia to create motivation for the entire border areas such as: Dredging Hong Ngu - Vinh Hung canal, upgrading roads DT.841, DT.842, DT.843;

Building residential clusters combined with creating sustainable livelihoods to stabilize the lives of border residents, gradually forming border urban areas and satellite urban areas in residential clusters; Build Hong Ngu city as the central urban area of the province's border area, connecting with Sa Rai town, Thuong Thoi Tien town, with 2 international border gate urban areas of Dinh Ba and Thuong Phuoc and calling for investment to upgrade Thuong Phuoc and Dinh Ba international border gate areas based on class V urban criteria to create a driving force for strong development of trade - services and tourism;

Developing the seafood processing, milling, and rice polishing industries and attracting investment to develop agricultural processing industries, agricultural by-products, and renewable energy industries; Creating conditions for the development of light industry, handicrafts, and craft villages (garment, footwears, mechanical product processing, consumer production, wood processing...) contributing to job creation;

Exploiting the advantages of the 2 international border gates of Dinh Ba and Thuong Phuoc and 04 auxiliary border gates of So Thuong, A Don, Thong Binh and Binh Phu; proposing to the Central Government to soon invest and upgrade Moc Ra border gate into the main border gate; Encouraging trade and exchange of goods between the people of the two countries;

Exploiting the system of border markets, border gate markets, and markets in border gate economic zones; Attracting capable businesses to participate in export and import activities; Strengthening international economic cooperation and promoting the tradition of friendly neighborliness with Cambodia to expand economic exchanges on the basis of the annual cooperation agreement between Dong Thap and Pray-Veng provinces, and the agreement on transport between Vietnam and Cambodia; Proposing the Government to include the Dinh Ba - Bontia Chak Cray border gate pair in the intermodal and trade agreements between Vietnam and Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand to increase the exchange of goods among the countries;

developing tourism on the basis of agriculture and rural areas, exploiting tourism resources such as dunes, monuments, landscapes, craft villages, eco-agricultural tourism combined with exploring the colors of border areas - border markers, border trade, waterway tourism; Focus on building brands of destinations.

Up to now, after half the term, 05/10 targets have made good progress, basically reaching and exceeding the annual targets.

Specifically, budget revenue in the period 2021 - 2023 was estimated to increase by an average of over 17%/year; The value of export and import of border goods in the period 2021 - 2023 increased by an average of 7.6%/year; 93% of border area residents participate in health insurance; 93.88% of households meet cultural standards; 94% of rural residents use clean water, etc.
