The biennial seventh festival will be held from July 11 to 14 in Nha Trang city, Khanh Vinh district, and Ninh Hoa Township, said Vice Standing Chairman of the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee Tran Son Hai at a press conference in Hanoi on May 8.

Hai, who is also the head of the organising board, noted outstanding activities such as an exhibition on marine cultural heritage, a document display on the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos, the semi-final round of the Miss Universe Vietnam, and salangane nest, wine and embroidery festivals.

Other highlights will include a street festival, a music programme on seas and islands and performances by foreign arts troupes.

Around twenty activities will take place in the run up to the Sea Festival, including beach cleanups, Ocean Day and Sea and Island Week, he added, expecting the Festival will attract 100,000 visitors.

The official noted only 30-35 percent of the event funding has been sourced from the province’s budget; the rest is covered by private organisations and companies.

Known for a mild climate, Nha Trang city recorded an annual 10-20 percent increase in the number of visitors, which rose three-fold over the last four years from 300,000 to 900,000.

During the six-day holiday in late April, the city hosted 107,000 visitors, including nearly 15,000 foreigners.
