Eleven draft laws are expected to be approved and 15 others will be scrutinised during the ninth sitting of the 13th National Assembly (NA), scheduled to convene on May 20, in a bid to implement the 2013 Constitution more effectively.

Vice Chairman of the NA Office Nguyen Si Dung said at a press conference on May 19 that among the 11 bills set to be approved, some are on the organisation and functions of administrative agencies at different levels such as the revised law on the organisation of the Government and the law on the organisation of local administrations.

The draft law on the election of NA and People’s Council deputies along with the draft law on the promulgation of legal documents will also be ratified during this session, set to last through June 26, he noted.

Meanwhile, many of the 15 bills up for discussion relate to judicial activities such as the revised Penal Code, the revised Civil Code, the revised Civil Procedure Code, the law on the organisation of criminal investigation agencies and the law on temporary detention and arrest, the official said.

Lawmakers will appraise a supplementary report on the implementation of socio-economic development and State budget plans in 2014 and the first few months of this year.

They will also review a report by the NA Standing Committee on the settlement of voters’ opinions sent to the NA’s eighth sitting and another report on the organisation of the recent 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Dung added.

He noted deputies are intended to comment on draft documents to be submitted to the 12th National Party Congress in early 2016.

The opening and closing ceremonies, discussions on the socio-economic performance and State budget reports, and question-and-answer sessions will be broadcast live on television and radio.
