When the incident happened, the passenger bus was traveling on National Highway 34 from Bao Lam District to Cao Bang City.

The exact number of people on the bus has not yet been determined due to difficulties in rescue operations caused by severe landslides along many sections of National Highway 34, said Trinh Sy Tai, head of the Office of the Cao Bang provincial administration.

Authorities are mobilizing police and military personnel to urgently access the area and search for the vehicle and victims.

Typhoon Yagi slammed into northern Vietnam on September 7, bringing strong winds and heavy rain.

Though weakening Yagi has moved into Laos and dissipated, heavy rain is continuing to fall, threatening mountainous localities, including Cao Bang.

Meteorologists have warned the localities about a high risk of flash floods and landslides in the coming days.
