VietNamNet Bridge – Scanty dress style, lip-synch of artists, violation of show organizers, etc. will be discussed at a seminar, held by the Art Performing Administration, in HCM City on December 27.
Entitled “Improving aesthetics in performing art,” the seminar will attract officials from the Art Performing Administration, the Association of Vietnamese Performing Artists, the Association of Vietnamese Dancers, the Association of Vietnamese Composers, the HCM City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and over 120 art troupes throughout the country.

According to the Art Performing Administration, more than 60 percent of art shows in Vietnam take place in HCM City so the city will host the seminar.

The Art Performing Administration’s chief Vuong Duy Bien said that the seminar aims to review art performing activities in 2011, which are said to have many mistakes, to evaluate traditional aesthetic values, the good and bad aspects in art shows in the year and to seek solutions to well manage art performing activities.

Bien said that the administration would submit to the government a draft decree on art performing in December.

The seminar will focus on how to deal with lip-sync, unaesthetic dress style of singers and organizing beauty contests in Vietnam.

“We expect to hear practical ideas. Good presentations will be compiled into a book to help management agencies to adjust current regulations on art performing,” Bien said.

Vietnamese audiences were recently very angry at some singers who were detected to lip-sync in music shows.

In early May, singer Quynh Nga was discovered to lip-sync when she dropped her microphone but her singing voice was still going.

Two weeks later, a singer named Thu Thuy was also detected with lip-sync in the same case with Quynh Nga.
The audiences showed their anger over the cases and the lip-sync phenomenon on many online forums. They said that new singers appear every day because singing is now a lucrative job. Thanks to lip-sync, singers can easily earn a lot of money, without real talent.

In the latest case, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism asked Quang Binh provincial authorities to inquire into and impose due fines on singers and models who wore scanty clothes during a charity music show called “Night of Beauties” in the province on August 14.

At the show, singers including Hoang Thuy Linh, Thu Minh, Yen Trang, especially Minh Hang, received critical comments from the public for donning skimpy costumes.
