VietNamNet Bridge – A drug trader was shot to dead by police in the northern province of Hoa Binh on August 26, when he tried to hold out.

On the morning of August 26, police detected a suspicious Lexus with a Hanoi registration number which was running on National Highway 21B, from Son La province to Hanoi. They gave a signal for stop to check the car.

The driver pretended to stop but he suddenly sped up to run away. Police ran after the car. After several hours, the Lexus car suddenly stopped at Bo hamlet in Lac Son district of Hoa Binh province.

The driver attempted to burn his car to destroy the evidence. He used a gun to rob a motorbike of a passer-by and drove the vehicle to Thieng Hill to hold out.

The man was surrounded by police and local residents but he did not yield. Knowing that the man carried a lot of weapons, the police tried to call him for surrendering but he insisted to stand fast. At around 6pm, police officers had to tighten the blockade and open fire to kill the man.

Police seized one AK assault rifle, one K59 short gun, one home-made gun, two grenades, dozens of bullets and many personal documents with different names.

The man’s car was not damaged because local people quickly stamped out the fire.

Searching the car, police detected 35kg of heroin, 800 pills of ectasy, five guns, hundreds of bullets, $20,000, VND150 million ($7,500), three laptops and 10 cell phones.

The man was then defined as Ta Van Hung, 47, from the northern province of Bac Giang. Hung had one previous conviction for robbery.
