
Authorities confirmed on May 5 that S.K., 25, has been placed in criminal detention for allegedly violating road traffic regulations with serious consequences.
According to initial findings, the incident occurred in the early hours of May 4. S.K. was riding a motorbike back to his accommodation after consuming alcohol. While traveling along Tran Phu Street, near April 2 Square, he allegedly lost control of the vehicle and struck the elderly pedestrian as she was crossing the road.
The impact left the victim critically injured. She later died while being transported to hospital for emergency treatment.
Police conducted a scene examination and worked with the suspect and relevant witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.
Test results showed that S.K.’s blood alcohol concentration measured 268.8 mg per 100 ml of blood - several times higher than the maximum legal threshold under current Vietnamese law, which is set at over 80 mg per 100 ml.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
