The stage started at HCM City Square in Nghe An and finished in Thanh Hoa, a distance of 142km, making it arguably the hardest stage of the race.

The organisers said Duan won by conserving his energy in previous stages and thus remaining fresher than his opponents.

He was followed by Nguyen Tan Hoai of Duoc Domesco Dong Thap and Vo Phu Trung of Hat Ngoc Troi.

After six stages, Vo Phu Trung of Hat Ngoc Troi is the race leader. In the team standings, Duoc Domesco Dong Thap and Hat Ngoc Troi are in first and second places.

Today the 133km seventh stage starts in Thanh Hoa and the riders go through Ninh Binh and Ha Nam to finish in Nam Dinh.

The race, from Da Nang to Ha Noi, is scheduled to end on September 2, National Day.
