VietNamNet Bridge – Popular pop singer Duc Tuan will stage a solo performance in HCM City tonight (April 21), singing popular revolutionary songs to celebrate the country's Reunification Day on April 30.

Pop star Duc Tuan will perform revolutionary music at his latest live show Bai Ca Khong Quen tonight.

The show called Bai Ca Khong Quen (Forever Songs) also aims to mark his 15 years of singing.

Tuan will perform with support from his younger colleagues, Hien Thuc, Noo Phuoc Thinh, Nguyen Ngoc Anh and Ngoc Mai, who share his love of music.

After spending months to prepare for the show, Tuan said he was confident he could win over the city's fans, including professional singers and music critics.

"I know some people think I don't have enough experience and power to sing revolutionary pieces," the 30-year-old said. "But I promised I will provide audiences with something new in my style of music and performance, instead of just my pop, R&B, and musical songs, which are my strength."

His show will employ a group of skilled dancers to make the songs meaningful.

Tuan will sing 15 works, including highlights such as Ba Me Gio Linh , Tinh Ca, La Do and Cau Ho Ben Bo Hien Luong, composed by veteran musicians Hoang Viet and Pham Duy. The songs are in praise of country, soldiers and heroic mothers.

"Revolutionary music has filled us with passion. I have no reason to have doubts about our performance," Tuan said.

Tuan began his singing career in 2000 after winning the Ho Chi Minh City Television Singing Competition, one of the country's professional singing contests.

Over the years he has faced many challenges in his attempt to achieve success.

With a strong voice and attractive appearance, Tuan has won acclaim from audiences in HCM City and southern provinces.

In 2003, he began singing musical theatre after his visit to New York.

He worked with English conductor-composer Paul Bateman, Canadian singer Genevieve Charest and Irish sound specialist Colin Voland, to learn how to sing the music.

His live show called Music of the Night in 2009 employed a symphony orchestra of 60 veteran and young artists, before a select group of fans. The orchestra played under the conductor Paul Bateman.

He sang 11 songs featuring nine works in English and two in French, such as This Is the Moment, Memory and Sunset Boulevard, which have been staged many times on Broadway.

He has spent nearly US$20,000 in copyright payment and recordings.

The show was met with critical as well as popular acclaim.

He has also released 14 albums in pop, R&B and musical theatre.

"I hope my new show will be a party for fans and encourage young people to learn more revolutionary music," he said.

Bai Ca Khong Quen will take place at 8pm at the Hoa Binh Theatre in District 10.
