Female fencer Nguyen Thi Le Dung (read Zung) has made a name for herself at the 2015 World Fencing Championships in Moscow, Russia after ranking 14th in the women's sabre.

Dung, 30, beat Felix Lara Rossy of Dominican Republic and Kim Jiyeon of South Korea in the qualifying round but lost to another South Korean rival, Hwang Seona, in round six.

With this performance, Dung will earn more points to secure a slot at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Dung's career includes eight gold medals at five Southeast Asian Games (2003, 2005, 2007, 2011 and 2015). She took up the sport at the age of 16 and has come to be regarded as the most experienced and skilful of Vietnamese women fencers.

Vietnamese athletes Vu Thanh An, To Duc Anh and Nguyen Xuan Loi also competed in the sport but failed to place in the men's sabre.

At the close of the men's epee event, SEA Games gold medalist Nguyen Tien Nhat finished with a rank of 102nd.

The women's and men's foil event will continue throughout the week until the event concludes on Sunday.
