VietNamNet Bridge – Dutch conductor Jan Stulen will lead the concert “Beethoven and Prokofiev” with the performance of Vietnamese violin prodigy Bui Cong Duy and HBSO Symphony Orchestra at HCMC Opera House at 8 p.m. on June 19.

Audiences will see a musical party with typical pieces in Classic and Romantic eras with Richard Strauss’s Serenade for 13 wind instruments in E-Flat Major, op. 7, Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.1 in D Major, op. 19 and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 in A Major, op. 92.
Jan Stulen was born in 1942 in Amsterdam, where he studied conducting and piano and violin at the Music Academy. In 1970 Jan Stulen became chief conductor of the “Nederlands Ballet Orkest” in Amsterdam and the “Nederlands Dans Theater“. From 1976 till 1992 he was permanent conductor of Radio Hilversum. During this period he made radio productions of over 1,000 compositions.
From 1992 till 2002 Jan Stulen was principal conductor of the Deutsches Kammer Orchester Frankfurt am Main and then chief conductor of the “Nederlands Promenade Orkest” from 1998 till 2003. As guest conductor he has appeared with all Dutch orchestras as well as orchestras in many countries.
As a teacher he is active at the Conservatories of Maastricht and Rotterdam. He is also giving a number of workshops for young conductors. Jan Stulen did many TV-appearances in long running series like “Una Voce Particolare.”
Starting playing violin at the age of 4 under instruction of his father - professor Bui Cong Thanh, Duy is one of the most successful Vietnamese musicians on the international stage. He received first prize at the 1995 International Music Competition “Z. Bron” in Novosibirsk, Russia and First prize and Gold Medal of the 1997 International Music Competition for Youth “Tchaikovsky” in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Duy has performed in many international festival and worked with many prestigious orchestras in Italy, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Macedonia, Poland, England, Croatia, Russia, Malaysia, Philippines, China and France. Currently, he is vice head of String Department at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.
