Chairman of Tra Vinh Province wants to retire
Tra Vinh Province's Chairman Tran Khieu.
In the afternoon of April 17, the Committee held a meeting to consider Khieu’s resignation.
According to Mr. Tran Binh Trong, head of the Information and Education Department of Tra Vinh Party Committee, Khieu signed the resignation on March 25 but the time the resignation sent to the provincial Party Committee is not verified.
In the resignation, Khieu asked for the provincial Party Committee’s approval for his early retirement for advanced age and poor health since he is a war invalid who lost 45 percent of health.
Trong said Khieu was born in October 1954 and in accordance with current regulations, he will retire in October 2014. Khieu submitted his resignation only, not any paper involved, Trong added.
The Party Standing Committee of Tra Vinh Province voted on the case on the morning of April 17 and all 14 members approved Khieu’s early retirement. The same day, the Provincial Party Committee also passed Khieu’s retirement, with 46/47 ayes. Thus, Khieu will no longer be Tra Vinh’s Chair and the Vice Party Chief of Tra Vinh Party Committee.
A VietNamNet’s correspondent asked Trong whether Khieu’s early retirement is related to the recent scandal with Ms. Tran Hong Ly, an official of the Tra Vinh Economic Zone Management Board. Trong said upon receiving Khieu’s resignation, all officials of Tra Vinh agreed that he should retire for the health reason.
