A 3.5 magnitude earthquake struck Yen Dinh and Vinh Loc districts of the north-central province of Thanh Hoa on November 7, according to the Vietnam Geophysics Institute.

The quake was centred at 20.05 degrees north latitude and 105.68 degrees east longitude at the depth of 10km, said the institute.

Local people said they heard a big bang at 06.25am and felt their houses were shaken strongly. They got into a panic and poured down onto the street. However, no human injuries or property damage were reported.  

Some local elderly said powerful earthquakes used to jolt Da But area of Vinh Tan commune, Vinh Loc district.

The Vietnam Geophysics Institute said it is continuing to keep a close watch on the earthquake.
