VietNamNet Bridge – The People's Committee of Bac Tra My district, Quang Nam province, has reported that quakes occurred in the communes located around the Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant in the morning yesterday, October 16.

Chief of the Bac Tra My People's Committee Office, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan said the first quake occurred at around 9.40am. Before the quake, there were many underground explosions.

Mr. Ho Van Loi, Chairman of Tra Doc commune, said the tremor was as strong as the one on September 23. “All cups on my table fell to the ground,” he said.

The accelerometer placed in the main tunnel of the Song Tranh 2 dam measured the parameter of this earthquake at 0.0037 g, equivalent to 36.26 cm/2s. The intensity of the quake has not yet determined.

After this vibration, two more tremors were recorded, about 2 hours later.

The Song Tranh 2 dam is still safe and it is closely monitored by experts and the authorities. The water level in the reservoir is about 1m higher than the dead level and generators are operating normally.
