VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese scholars Tran Duc Anh Son and Dr Ta Van Tai presented two topics in a two-day seminar on maritime trade in the Bien Dong (East Sea) at Columbia University and Tufts University yesterday (Nov 12).

Chairman of the Institute for Vietnamese Culture & Education (IVCE) in the US, Tran Thang, informed Viet Nam News of the event.

In the first topic at Columbia University titled: Documentary on Maritime Trade on the East Sea, Dr. Tran Duc Anh Son presented archaeological finds in the East Sea, and historical documents found in the archives of Viet Nam, Japan, China and Western countries that reveal the important role of the East Sea and Viet Nam in the maritime trade network of the world between the 10th and 20th centuries, especially in the Grand Commercial Era (16-18th centuries).

Viet Nam also possessed and frequented several archipelagos in the East Sea, including the Hoang Sa (Paracels) and the Truong Sa (Spratlys) Archipelagos, that lie on these routes.
