The qualifier round in Can Tho will have the participation of more than 100 children’s football teams from the southwestern region. The top four teams in Can Tho will play friendly matches against Street Legends from the Netherlands and Australia on August 10 to compete for the VND10,000 bonus.
The Street Legends is set up by Edgar Davis five years ago. Annually, Davis brings the team to France, Britain and African countries like Senegal, Kenya and Ghana for friendly games.
These trips were escorted by international football stars like Ryan Babel, Michael Essien, Marcel Desailly to raise fund for African kids who have passion for football.
The organizing board said that it is not sure whether Davis to come to Vietnam with the Street Legends or not.
Edgar Steven Davids, 38, is a former Dutch professional footballer. After beginning his professional career with Ajax, he played for Milan, Juventus, FC Barcelona, Internazionale Tottenham Hotspur before returning to the Amsterdam club. After two years out of competitive football, Davids signed for English side Crystal Palace in 2010.
Davids has glaucoma, which requires him to wear protective goggles during football matches. His dreadlocked hair and his protective eye wear made Davids one of the most recognizable footballers of his generation. Davids was one of the players chosen by Pelé to be featured in the FIFA 100 list of the world's greatest living footballers. He is a cousin of current NEC midfielder Lorenzo Davids.
