Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha yesterday sent a compliment letter to an 8-year-old child of Dong Son primary and secondary school in Hoanh Bo district of the northern province of Quang Ninh who travels 120 kilometers every weekend to study English in a foreign language center.

The minister expressed his admiration towards effort of second grader Nguyen Thanh Dat and his English fluency.

He wrote in the letter that he was touched when knowing that Dat and his mother travel 120 kilometers from Dong Son commune to a foreign language center in Ha Long city every weekend.

Dat sets an inspiring example for his peers to overcome difficulties in the pursuit of studying for the country’s development, wrote Mr. Nha.

In his letter, the minister also encouraged the boy to make great effort to fulfill his ambitious, yet achievable dream of studying in the UK.

He hoped that in addition to English, Dat would study well other subjects as well as be a good child to his parents and good student to his teachers.

Minister Nha thanked Dat’s parents who have nurtured his eager for learning at early age, believing that he will realize his dream.

Before, social network users were moved when Dat’s mother Le Thi Nam posted a video for an English contest named Believe in me.

In the video, Dat said that his primary school did not teach English, so he pled his mother to sign up for an English class.

Since then, Dat and his mother have traveled back and forth on a 60-kilometer-journey to the city by motorbike.

Le Thi Nam said that despite difficult living condition and she has to pay tuition fee by installment, she wants to do everything so that her son could learn English.
