VietNamNet Bridge – Police in the northern city of Ninh Binh on Sunday arrested eight men suspected of involvement in online football betting, according to an announcement on Monday.

Vice head of the city’s Police, Major Ngo Quang Tinh, said the suspects were found to have opened betting accounts on bongda.com.

Le Toan Thang, 36, and Dinh Lenh Toan, 29, both residing in the city since June 23, opened accounts and then transferred them to other suspects.

Police also seized 18 mobile phones, VND28 million (US$1,200) in cash other evidence of illegal betting.

Last month, Vietnam legalised sports betting after the National Assembly passed the Law on Sports and Physical Training, but the law is not due to take effect until next year.
