Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the finance ministry to direct the customs authorities to strengthen inspection and strictly control the import of electric motorbikes at border gates, and to ask assembly and production businesses in the country to implement regulations on invoices and taxes.
The defence ministry has been asked to direct border guard forces to strengthen coordination with relevant authorities to closely inspect, prevent and detect the smuggling of electric motorbikes.
Market management agencies have to strengthen checking of the origins of electric motorbikes in businesses and have to strictly deal with cases where the invoices are missing.
The public security ministry will check and deal with the owners of electric motorbikes who violate traffic laws, and will raise public awareness about registration and punish individuals and organisations that illegally trade in, manufacture and import electric motorbikes.
Electric motorbikes that do not have licence plates will not be allowed to be used and will be strictly fined from July 1.
The deputy prime minister has also asked the transport ministry to direct the transport department to strengthen control over the registration of electric motorbikes, and to coordinate with relevant ministries to raise public awareness about the law on use of motorbikes.
