Update news electricity market
The recent electricity retail hike of 3 per cent will likely have a small effect on the country's CPI in the short run, according to the Ministry of Finance.
The average retail price of electricity increases 3% to 1,920.373 VND (0.082 USD) per kWh from May 4, following a decision by the Vietnam Electricity (EVN) on adjusting the electricity retail prices.
The Bo Y 220kV switching substation in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum will receive electricity from the Nam Kong 2 and 3 hydropower plants of Laos by May 15 this year to integrate it with the Vietnamese electricity grid.
Despite Electricity of Vietnam’s (EVN) intention to increase energy rates to rebalance its budget for 2023, the status of coal-fired power does not yet seem to be declining.
Electricity demand has been growing steadily since 2021 and is expected to surpass domestic output in the short term.
Seventy seven power plants are expected to directly join the electricity market in 2015, accounting for nearly 70 percent of the total capacity of the entire national power system.
