The incident was reported at 7pm Wednesday.

Some houses were flooded at the depth of 1m.

Most of households in the affected area could not move their assets in time.

Mrs. Huong, who has been living in this area for more than 20 years, said that this was the first time she witnessed such an incident. "Tonight we do not know where to sleep. So many families have to lock the door to seek a temporary shelter," Huong said.

Some families used sandbags to hinder the water but this was only a temporary solution because the water was increasing.

There are many yellow apricot gardens in this area. "More than 1,000 apricot trees of my family are immersed in water. If the water does not withdraw soon, the trees will bloom before the New Year holiday," said Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Son, 44.

Some people slept on hammocks.

Many fish ponds in the area were also submerged. Some people caught fish at night.

The local authorities tried to repair the dike at night and the work is expected to complete today, December 5.

 Until this morning, the area was still flooded.
