On September 24th, the Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee officially declared an emergency situation concerning natural disasters and landslides in Residential Group 8, Quy Dat town, Minh Hoa District.

The hilly terrain behind the residential area, known as Cay Suong hill, features a steep and complex geological structure, rising about 65-70 meters above the ground level of the houses at its base.

Recent heavy rainfall, particularly from September 18th to 21st due to the impact of storm number 4, has exacerbated the situation, causing landslides and forming cracks over a total length of approximately 200 meters.

In some places, the landslide debris has approached within 5-10 meters of residential homes, posing immediate danger.

To safeguard the lives and property of its citizens, the Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee has directed the Minh Hoa District authorities and relevant units to quickly relocate all 40 households residing at the foot of Cay Suong hill to safe locations.

They have also been tasked with ensuring sufficient supplies of food and essentials for the displaced residents at the temporary shelters. Additionally, there is a constant monitoring of weather developments, and readiness measures are in place to respond promptly to any further incidents of landslides.

Authorities have installed warning signs in the hazardous areas and have dispatched permanent forces to guide and ensure the safety of both residents and passersby. Efforts to enhance public awareness about the landslide risks and the necessary precautions are also being intensified.

According to local officials, this recent sequence of events marks the second time in just a few days that Quy Dat town's administration has had to relocate these households to avoid the landslide risks.

“Yesterday, we had heavy rains, so we mobilized the community to evacuate. By this afternoon, the rain had stopped, and people were temporarily allowed to return home. In the coming days, we will continue to monitor the rainfall and landslide situation to urge people to evacuate again if necessary,” said Tran Dinh Nghia, Vice Chairman of the Quy Dat town People's Committee.
