VietNamNet Bridge – While a lot of educators have voiced their dissatisfaction about the Nam Dinh provincial authorities not to employ the graduates of non-state owned schools, others believe that this is a reasonable decision, because the schools can partially say about the qualifications of candidates.

Nam Dinh decision to refuse private school bachelors raises wave of anger

In fact, a lot of businesses always say “no” to the candidates who graduate from people founded schools or in-service training courses. Other businesses do not make announcement that they refuse non-state owned school graduates, but in reality, the graduates of the schools are not shortlisted.

Vietcombank, one of the biggest commercial banks in Vietnam, has recently announced the recruitment of staff for different positions at different branches nationwide. In the recruitment notice, it clearly states that it will only accept the candidates from the most prestigious schools, namely the Economics University, the University for Foreign Trade, Banking Academy, Trade University and well known foreign schools.

As for the Da Lat branch, the bank announced that it will only accept the candidates who graduate the HCM City Economics University, the HCM City Banking University, the Foreign Trade University and the HCM City Economics-Law University.

Similarly, when seeking personnel for the analysis division, Sacombank said that the candidates must graduate one of the most prestigious schools as follows: the University of Technology, University of Natural Sciences and the Economics University.

Viettel, a telecom giant, when seeking officers for its branches, also said it only accepted the candidates who graduate the popular training courses of state owned schools.

Especially, as for the post of engineer for hardware designing, besides the above requirements, Viettel said it only accepted the candidates who graduate from the Hanoi University of Technology, the Military Technique Academy, with good or excellent degrees.

Meanwhile, ACB, Vietinbank announced that the candidates must graduate the popular training courses of state owned schools.

MobiFone HCM City Branch, when recruiting information technology engineers, also said that only the candidates graduating from some state owned schools can be shortlisted. Especially, it accepts the graduates from foreign schools, but the schools must be listed in the top 500 most prestigious schools in the world.

Nguyen Thi To Uyen, Human Resource Director of Sacombank, said that employers have the right to choose candidates based on their criteria and the requirements of their works. As for Sacombank, the bank recruits officers based on its own criteria, and all students, who can meet the requirements, can be employed, no matter what schools they come from.

Uyen said that Sacombank has received applications for jobs from the graduates from 93 universities, junior colleges and vocational schools, including non-state schools. However, Uyen has revealed that the recruited officers mostly come from prestigious schools namely the HCM City Economics University, the HCM City Economics-Law University and the Banking University.

Nguyen Vu Van Anh, human resource development officer of Delloite, a consultancy firm, said it is true that employers prefer the candidates who graduate from state owned schools. They have every reason to do this. In many cases, the candidates graduating from non-state schools or in-service training courses have worse qualifications than the ones from state owned schools.

A lot of non-state schools just try to attract as many students as possible, while they do not pay attention to the training quality. Therefore, it is understandable why the products of the schools are refused by employers.

Do Phuoc Tong, Chair of Duy Khanh Mechanical Engineering Company, frankly said that the candidates who graduate from non-state schools usually have bad qualifications. Tong admitted that though the company still accepts the applications from non-state school graduates, but the candidates would not be shortlisted.

To Uyen said that in all cases, employers want to find out the best candidates. Therefore, the high qualification of candidates is always put as the most important criterion when seeking personnel. Therefore, once schools can prove their training quality, their graduates will be hunted by businesses and state agencies.
