Inspectors from the Ha Noi Department of Education and Training on Tuesday imposed VND5 million (US$220) on Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen and VND20 million ($880) on the MST English Training Institute where she was director.
The department also decided to dissolve all three English training centres under MST. Tuyen will be barred from all teaching activities, it said.
The decision comes after the department’s inspection of MST at its headquarters on May 6-7.
It concluded that the three MST English training centres, located in narrow alleys, were not registered for foreign language training.
Last week, a video of Tuyen quarrelling loudly with one of her students was posted on social media, garnering a lot of attention.
The video showed Tuyen shouting and using derogatory terms such as “pig brain” and “pig face” to address the student as he refused to pay a fine of VND100,000 ($4.4) for not doing his homework.
Tuyen could present only a graduate degree in accounting when requested by inspectors on Monday.
