Inspired by the diversity and richness of Hanoi, from its architecture and history to modern life, “Layers of Hanoi” is a special theme portrayed through multidimensional artistic perspectives of the city’s beauty.
Each artwork in the exhibition is created by passionate young artists, carrying their own messages and meaningful insights about Hanoi. Through these creative artworks, participants can witness different layers of Hanoi, ranging from its architectural and historical layers to its cultural and human layers, forming the diversity of one of the most bustling capitals of Southeast Asia.
This exhibition promises to bring an exciting journey of exploration, showcasing not only the artistic beauty but also the profound significance of the artworks painted on recycled fabric canvas. With a focus on green and sustainable art through these unique pieces, the exhibition opens up opportunities to spread the message of recycling and environmental protection, while also exploring the cultural beauty of the city.

Each trip is a time when our worldview is expanded, it is also a time when we worry more about our upcoming travel plans, visit strange lands, and experience new cultures. All will be in the program of Hanoi Brass Community in association with The Outpost this time.
Called BRASSPORT, the concert will take the audience on trips around the world with music composed specifically for Brass. More than just a musical walk, this is a date that will be a journey of emotion and historical exploration – led by engaging musicians and storytellers. BRASSPORT is also an interesting dialogue with the ongoing art exhibition “Peculiar Interfaces” at The Outpost, as both look at global themes, bringing together the contributions of local and international artists.

From Monologues to Dialogues: How Young Creatives Reflect Women’s Voice
06 pm, Fri 21 July 2023
Goethe Institut
58 Nguyễn Thái Học, Ba Đình, Hà Nội
“Aren’t men obliged to propose women?”
“They told me that a girl like me should get married”
“It’s been over seven years since my uncle became my guarantor, all I’ve ever done is work at my uncle’s restaurant. Six days a week, everyday repeats itself.”
Those are extraits of three different materials “A France-Vietnam round trip” written by Line Papin, a second-generation Vietnamese writer in France, and “A dream of three lives” and “Vietnamese restaurant” respectively by Maik Cây (Nguyễn Phương Anh) and Lê Khải Việt, Vietnamese writers. Three materials that show a journey of how women’s role has been seen through the development process of our society as well as different contexts of their life: from the public connections at work to the private space in family and their own self as a child. All the past and Vietnamese identity are carried through the work of these young creatives.
In the material we experience different stories that all unite questions about the voice of Vietnamese women: A woman talks about her three lives respectively as a meritorious person, a dedicated wife and a child that always end up in the pagoda due to piled-up misunderstandings a woman suffers from.
A young girl whose boyfriend is a French negotiates for her trip to France with her mother who has the memories of the wars.
A young girl directs fairly a conversation with her boyfriend about their business, opening a Vietnamese restaurant in Victoria, Australia.
In Vietnam, the movement of equal rights for women dates back during the French colonial period. It has been reflected through different formats and by various actors. This time, the three materials build a bridge through generations that shows how the women’s voice is taken from monologues to dialogues; and what the underlying structure that motivates changes. Participating at the talk are the three authors and activist in the field, which enables open discussions focusing on the topic.
These are documents of MY VIETNAM, a project about Vietnamese identities across borders implemented by the Goethe-Institut in collaboration with local partners. The project got financial support from the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam and other individuals. This event is one of three events being organized from May to July, 2023 to introduce project materials.
What’s left behind the Rectum? – Chapter 2: The Great Excretion
Until Aug 13, 09 am – 08 pm,
Mơ Art Space, B3, 136 Hang Trong Street
This July, Mo Art Space cordially present to art lovers the solo showcase by artist Tèo Phạm, curated by Đỗ Tường Linh
Drawing inspiration from the philosophical writings of Martin Heidegger and Friedrich Nietzsche, the vibrant works of Tèo Phạm leave a strong impression on viewers with the concept of “excretion”.
In his practice, he deliberately does not interfere much in terms of content and techniques, while calling his creative process a spiritual excrement – a grand excrement, implying a periodicity in what the mind and the spirit absorb and subsequently generate, the cycle of cause and effect.

Manzi Exhibition Space, No. 2 Hang Bun alley,
Entrusted Conjectures – an open studio by visual artist Ha Ninh Pham
Presenting a new series of “sculptures – measuring instruments” as a part of his on-going project titled “My Land”
How much of our perception of the world is shaped by the way we measure it?
Measurement refers to various systems of apparatus, units and rules based on which the uncertainty of value is reduced and can be expressed in a quantity. The standardization in measurement establishes a mutual understanding of quantities, and provides the basic reference for many disciplines. Measurement, thus, is a cornerstone of science, a fundamental step in framing and constructing the world.

Exhibition “Neverwhere”
Until Aug 5, Tues – Sat, 10 am – 07 pm
Galerie Quynh, 118 Nguyen Van Thu, D1
In the vast expanse of the universe, we find ourselves in an infinitesimally small space, encountering endless mysteries that defy our understanding. Throughout history, artists and scientists alike have been captivated by the idea of parallel realities.
Drawing inspiration from quantum mechanics, string theory, and avant-garde art movements,
Neverwhere delves into the uncharted territories of the imagination, transcending conventional norms and questioning the limitations of our perception.
The exhibition brings together six visionary artists – Nadege David, Cian Duggan, Sandrine Llouquet, Ngo Dinh Bao Chau, Trong Gia Nguyen, and Vo Tran Chau – who invite us on a mesmerizing journey through the intersections of art, science, and spirituality.
The title “Neverwhere” borrows from the eponymous novel by Neil Gaiman that depicts an unseen world beneath the sewers – LondonBelow– where strange destinies await, suggesting the idea of a physical space that does not yet exist in time.
Eddie Ryan: The Weight of Things
Opening: 06 pm, Thurs 29 June 2023
Exhibition: 07 am – 07 pm, 29 June – 31 Jul 2023
Matca Space for Photography
48 Ngoc Ha, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi
Worked in both liminal and post-liminal states*, ‘The Weight of Things’ intended to make manifest the ‘in between’ I found myself in on a number of fronts: I was between there and home as neither permanent resident nor naturalised citizen; I was classed as an expatriate, not an economic migrant even though the latter was the fact. I was continuing to work out the subtleties of engaging in cultural enquiry in a specific geographic location, operating within the boundaries of respect and the law of the country that gave me a place to live when I needed it most. Through exploring these nonmaterial aspects, I made work that’s subtly evocative of the nature of the place, the experience of the transition to successfully abide there, and to ‘placemake’ using photography as a partial conceptual mapmaking of the terrain of the infra-ordinary, the anti-sublime.
‘The Weight of Things’ as a title refers to the subjects that helped to articulate this situation: everyday objects in displacement and limbo, totems of protection employed by the migrant; photographs that visually articulated leaving, memory, arrival, and partial assimilation.
Eddie Ryan is a design educator and photographer currently living and working in Vietnam. A graduate of Central St Martins School of Art and Design, London, he began his creative career as a graphic designer. He utilises photography both figuratively and conceptually in digital and analogue forms, and his work has been exhibited physically, online and in print in Featureshoot, Air Magazine, ‘Behind The Portrait’ and ‘The Arab street II’ with Gulf Photo Plus, Vantage Point Sharjah 6, ‘The Art of Observation’ and ‘Car Habitats’ hosted by The Image Guide, and on Lensculture’s Critics Choice competition gallery. His work was also selected by Source Photographic Review as one of their MA/MFA selections for 2022 and was also chosen as one of The Pupilsphere’s Spotlight Artists the same year. He is a graduate of the MA Photography programme at the Belfast School of Art, Ulster University.
