Piano Concert with Moritz Ernst
Nov 7, 06:30 pm
Conservatory Ho Chi Minh City, 112 Nguyen Du, District 1
The German pianist and harpsichordist Moritz Ernst is making his debut in Vietnam on a Southeast Asian tour with stops in Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The program in Ho Chi Minh City includes important pieces by leading composers of the 20th century and the present.
Moritz Ernst began playing the piano at the age of 5 and shortly afterwards received lessons from teachers at the Detmold University of Music. After graduating from high school at the age of just 16, he began his artistic training there, with an additional minor in musicology. In 2005 he moved to the Musikhochschule Basel to complete his studies there in 2008 with Jean Jaques Dünki.
Already during his studies he began an active concert career at home and abroad, which he expanded to include performances with the harpsichord after additional harpsichord studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. In addition, from 2002 he was a student of Prof. Peter Feuchtwanger in London, who had a great influence on him.
Moritz Ernst cultivates an extraordinarily broad repertoire, ranging from baroque virginal music to modern music, often switching between harpsichord and piano in the same concert.
In the field of modern music, he works with leading contemporary composers (Klaus Huber, Sandeep Bhagwati, Wolfgang Rihm, Michael Plezel, Jimmie LeBlanc, Miklos Maros, Kent Olofsson, Michael Edgerton…), who often dedicate works to him.
Leading international magazines gave his recordings the highest ratings: Diapason (5/5 for Lourie Piano Works), Fono Forum 5/5 (for the Ullmann Piano Concerto) and the BBC Music Magazine. Moritz Ernst’s interpretations are broadcast by leading German and international radio stations (WDR, DRadio, DLF, BR, SR, SRF2, BBC…) and he is regularly invited to record.
In addition to his worldwide activities as a soloist and under conductors such as Gabriel Feltz and Mario Venzago, Moritz Ernst regularly gives master classes at venues such as the Stuttgart University of Music, the Malmö Royal Academy, the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Boston Conservatory.
Future CD productions are complete recordings of the piano sonatas by Joseph Haydn, Karel Reiner and Sandeep Bhagwati. A complete recording of the works of Hans Erich Apostel was recently completed.
His commitment to the performance of ostracized composers led to an appearance in the German Bundestag in 2017.
Moritz Ernst is a member of the Steinway Artists.

To make one hour improv show, the only way is to be well prepared. The structure of the show has been invented for a two person show, the actors experimented it and changed it until they were completely satisfied.

The work results will be presented to the public through Artist’s talk, especially during the Final Exhibition 2022 at the end of November in Hanoi.
There are 10 artists from Germany, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam participating in this project: Oscar Lebeck, Miho Shimizu, Bae Byung Wook, Ryusuke Ito, Sodam Lim, Nguyễn Minh Hoàng, Mi Fa, Jo Ngô & Lê Minh Châu and Lê Tú Anh. ”Du Miên” Exhibition
22 Oct – 06 Nov 2022, 09 am – 08 pm
REI Artspace
371/4 Hai Bà Trưng, D.3, HCMC
REI Artspace is pleased to present the solo exhibition “Du Mien” of emerging visual artist Phan Dinh Khanh. The exhibition takes the audience on a journey into dreams – where ‘memories’ are saved. At first glance, it appears to be Khanh’s own fantasy, yet, the more you look the more viewers will feel that the images in front of their eyes are very nostalgic – the memories that everyone has experienced at least once in their life.
From the early days of his career, Phan Dinh Khanh has chosen ‘memory’ and photography as the material for his works. By overlapping images, the interlacing blur effects are shown by Khanh as memory pieces stacked on top of each other, the images vaguely appearing, giving you the feeling: the more you try to remember, the fader they become. With Khanh, “Memories are a part of life, they are always in your mind subconsciously, I want to recreate them into works that can be seen, touched, and kept by the senses, other than perception”.
Khanh returns to Saigon this time with “Du Mien”, using the same technique of superimposing many photos, interacting with color and composition theory in painting, Phan Dinh Khanh invites the viewers to his dream journey. Viewers will enter Khanh’s dream where memories collage, and the colors tangled. Dejavu is the best definition to explicate the feeling.

Have you ever considered picking up a brush to paint, but then gave up because you didn’t know where to start? Did you know we can now use machines (and not just our hands) to create artworks? In this fast-paced world, how closely-intertwined with human life do you think machines and technologies are becoming? Will machines (digital tools, and even AI) help expand the boundaries of contemporary art? If this sounds like you, then come join us in this workshop with artist UuDam Tran Nguyen, where he will talk about his work License2Draw – L2D (a ‘robotic hand’ that can draw!), and join in on a ‘collective drawing’ session with other participants using the L2D app. Who knows, this might be your chance to bring home your first artwork!

For this comeback after three years (since his third solo show in Saigon), Huy An assembles an exclusive space for singular objects/relationships which would provoke an odd encounter of disparate subjects (they are essentially alien to each other and, at first sight, seemingly unfamiliar to the keen followers of Huy An’s art practices as well).

Exhibition “Inside the Garden”
Opening: Sat 22 Oct 2022, 06 pm
Exhibition: 22 Oct – 15 Nov 2022, 09 am – 08 pm
The Muse Artspace
Số 47 Tràng Tiền, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội
This lacquer painting series “Inside the Garden” is a project starting from early 2019. Artist Vu Van Tich once told us that 3-years is the minimum period that he needs to do preparation, due to the intricacies required in lacquer techniques. Perfecting this artistic medium can be challenging, even with years of experience. The exhibition is made possible thanks to the perseverance driven by passion and discipline of the artist. We have had many discussions regarding the essential techniques and unique values of lacquer – a material that’s mentioned in the book The Artistic Capital of Vietnamese Nation.
Van Tich often concerned himself with the creative directions of lacquer painting. He began by spending 10 years working on simple topics that stem from personal perspectives. The level of sophistication of these paintings is the direct result of Tich’s efforts in the early days.
The exhibition “Inside the Garden” includes 20 artworks that share a coherent composition rhythm. Two paintings, Inside the Garden and Spring is Here, are scaled up to 1,6 meters, depicting the romantic floral scenery of the Northwest region in Vietnam. Other paintings such as Purple Cactus, Wind Day, or Night focus on the elegant beauty, and the different states and characteristics of plants in the garden. Having a cold, gloomy background, the painting Late Afternoon highlights the red-orange hues of the flower bushes. The foliages lurk behind a mysterious night. The painting shines a light on the distant memories that are hidden deep within.
Meanwhile, the Golden Mai directly took inspiration from the artist’s personal event. He applied thin layers of multi-tone purple on the surface, and powdered them with reflective silver/gold leaves, producing a clear and vast setting. By using fine silver powder, painting through multi-layer, combining three shades of red, extracted from Cinabrio minerals, fusing artistic quirks such as inverting contrasting spaces, and employing symbolic language, Van Tich has constructed a vibrant and vivacious garden.
