The Institut Français de Hanoi – L’Espace – has announced that the French electronic music band La Fine Equipe will headline concerts on January 28 and 30 in Danang and Ho Chi Minh City, respectively.

Composed of four beatmakers from Paris and Marseille: Blanka, Chomsk ‘, Mr Gib and Oogo, La Fine Equipe “offers original and damn malignant productions on stage” according to Les Inrockuptibles.

Vung Tau festival hosts 70 artists, troupes

More than 70 artists will perform in the annual 2016 Spring – Sea and Island Festival at the Youth Cultural House in Vung Tau City today as the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday approaches.

The event will feature cultural and art shows performed by dozens of veteran and young artists from traditional art troupes.

The festival includes cai luong (reformed theatre) and tai tu (traditional tunes of the south) performances, as well as calligraphy painting displays and traditional game and sport competitions.

Participants will be encouraged to paint and write their best wishes to soldiers on an oversized greeting card.

The festival's themes highlight Viet Nam's seas and islands sovereignty.

More than 300 navy soldiers and police will be invited to participate in the event. Some of them will talk about their life and work with young audiences.

The festival will include a music and song gala tonight featuring hundreds of students from local schools.

Street shows featuring folk art and games will begin at 8pm until late night.

The organisers, the city's Youth Union in co-operation with Youth Cultural House and Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, said they had received support from the city's People's Committee and other offices and organisations.

Last year, the festival was organised at the HCM City Youth Cultural House, attracting more than 10,000 young people.

Art exhibition showcases beauty, culture of Ha Noi

The beauty of Viet Nam's nature and culture, particularly in Ha Noi, are featured at an exhibition that opened yesterday.

Entitled Colours of Ha Noi, the exhibition introduces 60 paintings by 17 artists in diverse crafts such as lacquer, silk painting and oil on canvas.

The exhibition will run until January 25 at the Ha Noi's Old Quarter's Cultural Exchange Centre, 50 Dao Duy Tu Street.

Music, culture festival recognises Japanese New Year

A cultural festival to welcome the Japanese traditional New Year (Oshogatsu) will take place at the Ha Noi University of Science and Technology (HUST) on Saturday.

The non-profit event is held annually to reproduce Japan's traditional Oshougatsu New Year Festival in Viet Nam and promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.

During the event, a wide range of activities will be held such as musical performances, an exhibition of 100 photos featuring Japanese people and the country, Yosakoi dances and yukata-wearing (an informal, unlined kimono made of cotton).

An installation of 800 paper cranes will help visitors express their dreams and prayers for the New Year.

Participants will have the chance to better understand the unique Japanese culture through traditional games, cuisine and the making of teru teru dolls, mochi cake and calligraphy.

New Year (shogatsu or oshogatsu) is the most important holiday in Japan. The programme is organised by the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies under HUST and Japanese language club Hedspi Nichibu.

Hundreds of circus performers from 20 countries and territories will participate in the International Circus Festival 2016 in Hue City in May.

The performers will come from countries such as Australia, Belarus, Belgium and Cambodia, besides Canada and Germany.

Vietnamese circus troupes will also participate in the festival to exchange experiences.

The acts that will be performed include magic, sport circus, acrobatics and swinging and acts by clowns.

Photo exhibition features Vietnam’s endless beauty

An exhibition titled Vietnam-endless beauty opened in Beijing, China on January 11 to showcase photos and pictures of Vietnam’s land and people.

The event co-organized by the Vietnam Embassy and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Chinese Ministry of Culture marks the 66th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomatic ties.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vietnam Ambassador to China Dang Minh Khoi emphasised that the two countries have recently coordinated to hold a number of cultural, art, educational, sport, tourism and people-to-people exchange activities. Such events have helped strengthened and enhanced mutual understanding.

He hoped that the exhibition showcasing works of three Vietnamese photographers and painters – Nguyen Viet Thanh, Hoang Hai Thinh and Dang Phuong Viet – will help Chinese visitors have deeper understanding about Vietnam’s beautiful land and peace-loving people.
