Fourteen foreign television channels will stop broadcasting pay TV services in Vietnam from October 1. The management agency has asked service providers to notify their subscribers of the change to ensure customers’ interests.
According to the Department of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (Ministry of Information and Communications), Disney Networks Group Asia Pacific Limited and Buena Vista International Inc have announced that they will stop broadcasting many television channels in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, including Vietnam.
Specifically, Disney Networks will stop broadcasting up to 12 channels, while Buena Vista will cease two channels, both from October 1, 2021.
According to the Department of Broadcasting, Television and Electronic Information, these channels include: Fox Movies, Fox Family Movies, Fox Action Movies, Fox Life, Fox Crime, Fox Sports, Fox Sports 2, Fox Sports 3, Channel V, FX, National Geographic People, Disney Channel and Disney Junior.
On August 18, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information issued a written request to pay TV service providers, asking them to notify their subscribers of the change soon.
The agency also asked these firms to urgently review the list of foreign television channels to have a suitable business plan, from October 1.
