Professional and underground rappers are encouraged to take part in an online contest called Bắt Beat Hay- Bắn Rap Đỉnh (Creating Beat- Shooting Rap) which was launched this week in HCM City. (Photo courtesy of the organiser)

The show, produced by AMD Vietnam and its partners, aims to seek new talents in rap and hip hop as well as bring the music closer to Vietnamese audiences.

Creating Beat-Shooting Rap invited DJ Minh Tri, one of Hanoi’s leading music producers and mixers, to work as a main coach.

Minh Tri, 31, has been involved in the electronic music scene since 2005. He has performed hip hop, House, Funk and Breakbeat, and produced famous beats. He has worked with music bands and pop idols and has also performed in big concerts and music festivals in Hanoi, HCM City, Da Nang and Hue.

He also works as a contemporary dancer and has played leading roles in dozens of TV shows and films.

Minh Tri now owns S.I.N.E., a TV producing and entertainment agency in Hanoi.

“I think Bắt Beat Hay-Bắn Rap Đỉnh is a very good opportunity for young rappers to introduce their art and experience their passion,” he told local media.

Recent years have seen the rise of rap stars in the Vietnamese music industry like Den Vau or BigDaddy. Last year, two reality TV shows called Rap Việt and King of Rap dedicated to rap caused a stir in the industry.

While Rap Việt is adapted from The Rapper of Thailand, a show widely known in Asia, King of Rap has the copyright from South Korea’s Show Me the Money rap competition. The first two competitions encouraged young rappers to develop their career.

The full video of the performances of the contestants in the first episode of Rap Việt, uploaded on YouTube, has topped 19 million views, while the King of Rap reached nearly 6 million views after a week of release online.

Creating Beat-Shooting Rap launched its selective rounds on February 22.

The contestants should upload their videos on their Facebook with hashtag #IchooseAMD #AMD #RyzenMobile. They should send the video link to AMD Vietnam before April 11.

Five best videos of the selective rounds will receive VND10 million (US$450) in cash each.

More information about the contest can be found on the website www.amdvietnam.com. VNS
