The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union has launched a five-month “Green Sundays” campaign to raise awareness of environmental protection nationwide, particularly in crowded residential areas, factories, agencies and schools.
Voluntary youths help clean the environment
Localities will hold activities as part of the campaign on Sundays from March to July this year.
In the Youth Month in March, the “Green Sundays” campaign will be held in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai, the northern port city of Hai Phong and the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.
The campaign will be implemented in all localities in June – the peak month of the voluntary youth summer campaign, and in response to the World Environment Day (June 5). It will also take place on July 22 to mark war Martyrs' Day.
Numerous activities will be held during the campaign, including publicity campaigns on environmental protection, climate change adaptation and volunteering to plant trees and flowers, among others.
Youths in rural areas will help clean living environments and plant and take care of mangrove forests in coastal areas in the north, the central region, the Central Highlands and the Mekong Delta.
Voluntary teams will be established to encourage people to sign environmental protection commitments, protect local rivers, build clean toilets, move livestock breeding facilities away from houses and clean up neighbourhoods.
Meanwhile, youths in urban areas will distribute flyers calling on people to protect the environment, give out environmentally friendly carrier bags, collect garbage, plant trees and keep streets and rivers clean.
They are encouraged to launch initiatives to protect the ecosystem, collaborate with other bodies to handle violations of environmental laws and convince factories, enterprises and producers to agree to protect the environment and water sources.-VNA
