Trong’s equipment, displayed at Techmart 2015, a technology trade fair, caught the attention of the public, most of whom ride motorbikes as their major means of transport.
The equipment operates on a simple principle. The heat from the exhaust pipe is used to heat up petrol before the petrol is brought to the combustion chamber.
“Once petrol is heated, it will be burnt completely when getting vaporized, 100 percent, with no petrol left,” he said.
Trong affirmed that his equipment allows savings of 40 percent of fuel. The vehicles equipped with Trong’s fuel saver can run 100 kilometers with just one liter of petrol.
However, scientists doubt that Trong’s equipment can help save fuel. Trong admitted that besides the patent certificate granted by NOIP, he does not have certificates which can certify the equipment’s effectiveness.
“I am following necessary procedures to have the equipment tested by the Vietnam Directorate of Standardization, Measurement and Quality,” he said.
An NOIP official praised the feasibility of Trong’s equipment. He said the problem now lies in the marketing and pricing, but many products have been sold.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ngo Tuan Kiet, former head of the Energy Science Institute, doubts that the equipment would bring economic efficiency.
“The operation principle Trong mentioned will only help enhance the combustion to allow petrol to be burnt 100 percent, but it will not bring the described effects,” Kiet said.
“In order to save petrol, comprehensive measures will be needed,” he said.
According to Kiet, in general, 95-96 percent of fuel is burnt. The equipment would help raise the proportion to 98-99 percent, or even 100 percent. However, this is not the key to saving of fuel.
“Petrol itself in normal conditions can vaporize very well,” he added.
According to Khong Vu Quang from the Hanoi University of Technology, the principle of Trong’s equipment is taking full advantage of the heat from the exhaust pipe to provide more heat to the mixture of petrol and air. Once petrol is mixed well, it can evaporate better and burn more completely.
However, Quang believes the equipment can be optimized in certain operation modes.
Meanwhile, the equipment can only be applied on a small scale. “It may have an effect if it is installed on a machine running at a stable speed. But it will not work for a motorbike which changes speed regularly,” he said.
