“Nguyen Tuyet Dung take a bow” was a headline in many European newspapers and online sites after the Vietnamese footballer scored two goals directly from corner kicks against Malaysia in an AFF Women’s Football Championship Group match on May 4.

The Mirror, one of the biggest newspaper in the UK, with an average daily publication of nearly 900,000 copies, published an article remarking on the feat, commenting that while everyone loves a goal direct from a corner, such a site is as rare and delightful as spotting a rare animal in the wild.

Dung pulled off the incredible brace during Vietnam’s 7-0 thrashing of Malaysia in their Championship Group B match in Ho Chi Minh City.

The EuroSport online website posted a video and stated that Dung’s achievement was the first time in the history of professional football that a player has scored two goals directly from a corner in the same match using different feet.

The incredible goals were also quickly shared on sites including You Tube, Dailymotion and 101 great goals. The story has put the spotlight on Vietnamese football.

Many reports pre-empted criticism that the goals might have been flukes by pointing out that Dung was the winner of the Vietnamese 2014 Golden Boot.
