Book “Every Child is a Philosopher”
Exhibition: Monday 01 Aug, 6 pm - Sat 03 Sept, 7 pm
Talk with translator: Sat 20 Aug 2011, 9 am
L’Espace, 24 Trang Tien, Hanoi
On the occasion of the publication of works by Oscar Brenifier and Jacques Després in Vietnamese, L’Espace organizes a book introduction and a meeting with translator Pham Quang. This book is something for us to think. It’s an exceptional book.
We acknowledge many contradictions at the very young age: tall vs short, cold vs hot, dark vs light. Gradually, our mind becomes more sophisticated. We have the ability to acknowledge more abstract ideas and complicated concepts. But our mind still requires some comparisons. Without contrasting ideas, we can not think.
The book introduces 20 contrasting pairs by listing how they are different, and linking them together by one question and finally drawing out the conclusion why one thing leads to another. The pictures in the book perfectly depicts how the ideas are formed. This book is for us to look at and to think about…

The theater yarn ball rolls on, this time out of the theater and weaving three local cafes and restaurants together in a weekend of theatrical spectacular. Or non-theatrical – we’re not quite sure.
On the last three days of July, Hanoi International Theatre Society presents “Offending the Audience,” a(n anti-)play by Austrian dramatist Peter Handke.
Beware of strangeness. This play is set to be a little different from what you may be used to. Challenging the idea of the world of the theater and theatergoers, this piece will probably encourage you to go to the theater more often with a new consciousness, and surely reveal to you new found charms of the hosting venues.
At 8 PM on Friday, July 29, the beloved courtyard of Hanoi Cooking Centre/Bookworm (44 Chau Long) will get even more intimate. Come early for dinner and a glass of wine to gradually ease yourself into the happening. The night after, at 8 PM on Saturday, July 30, Offending the Audience will be the inaugural theater performance at the latest venue in town – The Hanoi Social Club (6 Hoi Vu). Already famous with their delicious and healthy food and drink options,The Hanoi Social Club will serve dinner before and after the show. Lastly, to sum things up, the cast will offend the customers in Puku (16 Tong Duy Tan) at 5 PM on Sunday, July 31. You’ll be part of time in a theater space while watching sundown and darkness slowly draping itself onto the city.
You can choose to be part of only one or all three very different nights. Whatever the case, you will be offended thoroughly, you chuckleheads.
Ticket price: 100 000 VND
Tickets are available at Hanoi Cooking Centre and Bookworm, Hanoi Social Club, and Puku.
All profit will be used to set up a fund to support local community theater productions and local scriptwriters.
