Exhibition House, 29 Hang Bai Str, Hanoi
The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Hanoi would like to invite you to the exhibition of the eminent Polish landscape painter Franciszek Ryszard MAZUREK. The artist paints on canvas in a classic style. He concentrates on the beauty of the landscape of the Lublin region in Eastern Poland. His paintings teach us to be humble to the passing of time, they preserve the shape of the changing landscape characteristic of a particular place.
Born in 1951 F. R. Mazurek graduated from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Faculty of Fine arts. Since 1979 he has presented more than 30 individual exhibitions (in Poland, Ukraine, Germany, France, United Arab Emirates, Moldavia, Romania and Belgium) and participated in more than 11 group exhibitions (in Poland, Italy, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Russia, Romania and Hungary).
Works of Mr. Mazurek are accompanied by a note of romantic sentiment and awareness of irreversible changes following the rhythm of nature and civilization. Regardless of what the opinion of modern painting is, this type of creative activity is another confirmation of the role which realistic art plays in contemporary world.

Japanese Film Festival 2011 – LOVE
HANOI: 20 – 26 Oct 2011
National Cinema Center, 7 Lang Ha, Ba Dinh Dist, Hanoi
DANANG: 11 – 13 Nov 2011
Le Do Cinema, 46 Tran Phu, Hai Chau, Danang
The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam shares the delight of hosting a Japanese Film Festival 2011 – LOVE – in Hanoi and Danang from October – November 2011.
The selected films this year are all related to “Love.” Eight films which are all related to “Love” will be screened with English and Vietnamese subtitles.
Love is one of the important themes in our life, but the way of expressing it and for which we feel love vary in cultures and individuals.
The latest film Paradise Kiss (2011), for instance, depicts a gradual development of love between a handsome fashion designer-to-be student and a high school girl, while the action movie Kamui (2009) focuses on love for freedom. Both films star the most in-demand talents, Osamu Mukai & Keiko Kitagawa, Kenichi Matsuyama (Norwegian Wood by Tran Anh Hung) & Koyuki (The Last Samurai), respectively, but the loves described in each film are totally different.
Even pure loves go to various directions. In the film The Milkwoman (2004), an unmarried 50 year old woman keeps her first love from high school over decades and the film quietly follows the unexpected turns after her encounter with her first love, a married middle-aged civil servant. The time spiral story in the film A Stranger of Mine (2004), on the other hand, comically depicts the sequences of pure love of a businessman who fell in love with an almost stranger.
The almost all selected films hold several awards not only from Japan but also from the world and all films are highly acclaimed by critics. 8 films in total will be screened with English and Vietnamese subtitles.
We do hope you will enjoy the diversity of the Japanese films through which we can also witness the variety of love.
Free admission tickets are available from 14:00, Friday October 7, 2011
Time: 9:30 ~ 18:00 (Monday ~ Saturday) (Notice: off on Monday October 10/10)

Logo Competition
Calls for Entry, Info for Artists. Logo Competition for the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Canada relationship: is calling for submission
Deadline: 12 pm Fri 08 Nov 2011, Jakarta/Hanoi Time
The Embassy of Canada in Hanoi would like to invite Vietnamese youth between 16-21 years old to take part in a competition to design a logo to celebrate the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Canada dialogue relations next year.
For more information, see below:
About the ASEAN-Canada Relationship and the 35th Anniversary
The Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) and Canada share a special bond based on common values, mutual respect and friendship. As one of ASEAN’s longest standing Dialogue Partners, dating back to 1977, ASEAN and Canada have forged a strong partnership through collaboration on a wide range of areas of mutual interest, including human rights, trade and investment, counter terrorism and transnational crime, health and pandemic preparedness. Over the past few years, the ASEAN-Canada relationship reached new heights through the Canadian accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia and the adoption of the ASEAN-Canada Plan of Action. Most recently, on July 22, 2011, Foreign Ministers from ASEAN Member States and Canada collectively endorsed the 35th anniversary theme “35 Years of Partnership and Friendship”. The theme is representative of the positive and fruitful ties that enjoy ASEAN and Canada. The 35th Anniversary represents a significant milestone that deserves to be celebrated and showcased with the peoples of ASEAN and Canada.
Design Guidelines
The anniversary logo should take into account emblems from Canada and ASEAN, notably the national flag of Canada and the flag of ASEAN. The logo should also be concise and easy to recognize. Flexibility will be important in order to allow for resizing, and it should also look presentable both in colour and in black and white. The logo will be used in a variety of promotion material including publications, letters, envelopes, invitation card, badges, folders etc. Applicants are therefore encouraged to conduct a little research on ASEAN and Canada by visiting www.asean.org; www.international.gc.ca; or any other related website or publication.
Eligibility
The competition is eligible to young nationals from ASEAN Member States and Canada ranging in ages 16-21 years old by December 31, 2011.
Winner Selection and Prizes
The ASEAN Committee of Permanent Representatives and the Canadian Ambassador to ASEAN will be responsible for the selection of the final winner of the competition. The designer of the winning logo will receive a new BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone, while the runner-up will be rewarded with a new BlackBerry PlayBook. Both products are graciously provided by Research In Motion, a global leader in wireless innovation helping millions of people to stay connected.

Concert “Lost in Vibration”
Thu 20 Oct 2011, 8 pm
Goethe, 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Hanoi
You are invited to the concert “Lost in Vibration”. The sound from a thousand years of the traditional instrument has been lost. New sounds come to the instrument. Once again, it is lost in vibration. “Lost in Vibration” will be a performance of six dan tranh: Nguyễn Thanh Thủy; Nguyễn Thùy Dung; Nguyễn Quỳnh Ngọc; Phạm Thu Thủy; Nguyễn Khánh Chung; Trịnh Thị Hạnh.
Artist Nguyen Thanh Thuy: Nguyen Thanh Thuy was born into a musical family and raised with traditional folk music from childhood. She graduated in 1998 from the National Music Academy and this was the year she won the First Prize and Best Traditional Music Performer Prize in Vietnam. In 2002 she graduated as Master of Arts from the Folklore Institute. Nguyen Thanh Thuy is now active in both traditional and experimental fields of music as a performer in many countries. Currently she teaches dan tranhat the Vietnam National Academy of Music. She has released many CDs.
Since 2004 Nguyen Thanh Thuy works regularly with many composers of contemporary music such as Nguyen Thien Dao, Tran Kim Ngoc, Kent Olofsson, Richard Kapen, Malin Bang. Thuy often plays new music with musicians in Scandinavia and the US. She works as an improviser. Often improvising during performances, Thuy is the first pioneer to bring the dan tranh into the experimental arena. She has mastered many techniques that do not exist in traditional music. “Lost in Vibration” is the first experimental piece for dan tranh composed by Thuy.
Dan tranh is a very popular traditional instrument in Vietnam. But ”Lost in Vibration” will allow audiences to lose themselves in the new concept of sound and music for dan tranh. ”Lost in Vibration” will show how strong and rich the sound of dan tranh can be. ”Lost in Vibration” will demonstrate that the value of tradition should be the first step of creating, not the last step. And the tradition of tomorrow should begin today.
Free Admission.
