Originated from the novel by Prosper Mérimée, the opera Carmen was completed in the autumn of 1874. It was the last work of Georges Bizet, and also is the most popular opera on the stage in the world until now. Bizet, through his music, told us a tragic story behind brightness, and depicted the optimistic, straightforward but wild personality of a Gypsy girl, Carmen. The opera discloses the bald-faced passions, describes the eternal confrontation between men and women, shows the ruthless but beautiful life, and proves the perpetual co-existence between love and death.

Comedy Performance “Lend Me a Tenor”

In his solo exhibition, Ngo Van Sac returns to his unique form of wood burn painting as a follow-up to his 2015 exhibition of collage and acrylic on canvas paintings entitled “In Opposite”. With “Slices”, Sac continues the evolution of his wood burn practice with the introduction of more acrylic paint and calligraphy, and through a change in primary subject matter from a focus on self-portraiture to the portrayal of the peoples of Vietnam’s ethnic minority groups. What remains the same are Sac’s working method which demonstrates a mastery of his materials, and the exciting outcomes of his experimentation.

‘Paradise Lost’ by Hoang Thanh Vinh Phong (born 1971) will bring visitors to a world where the familiar is made strange, the mundane mythologised and the symbolic re-arranged. Through the shifting of shapes and twisting of material, images and objects from the everyday world are taken out of context, heightened with a sense of ambiguity, asking us to look beyond what our first glance has to offer.

Exhibition “Spirit of Friendship'

Come to a survey exhibition highlighting the role and contribution of the friendships between artist in furthering the development of the experimental art practice in Vietnam, since 1975, featuring 22 artist-groups from across the country.

As an educational display, it gives recognition to how ‘friendship’ continues to further the testing and encouraging of ideas among artists, beyond what was officially understood, taught, or predominantly exhibited in Vietnam at that time, believing their art worthy of more than catering to ideological/formal and touristic (commercial) demands.
