EXHIBITION Photo Exhibition “Regards Croisés” Institut Français de Hanoi – L’Espace 24 Trang Tien, Hanoi Participating photographers: Virginie Kahn, Jean Barak, Sylvain Mestre, Nguyen Kieu Linh, Nguyen The Duong, Tuan Dao, Tran Ky Anh, Trinh Xuan Hai As part of the “Contemporary Dance: Europe meets Asia 2017” festival, the “Regards Croisés” (translation: Common Viewpoint) exhibition by young artist Nguyen Kieu Linh will present the perspectives of eight photographers, from France and Vietnam, on contemporary dance in the two countries. The photographs and videos document the art of contemporary dance in many aspects: in the studio, on the stage, or the solitude behind the curtains. Free entry Exhibition “Sparkling – Collection of Lacquered and Gilded Wood Objects” Vietnam National Museum of History 1 Trang Tien street, Hoan Kiem district The exhibition introduces nearly 100 documents and objects dating from the Le and Nguyen dynasties (from 17th to the early of 20th century) – the brilliant development stage of the lacquering and gilding industry – including the unique and rare objects on show to the public for the first time. The objects selected for display are rich and varied in design with unique decorative patterns. With the fine carvings, the shade of the red paint, the light of the gold and the vividly decorative themes, the lacquered and gilded wood objects are always attached to solemn sites such as royal palaces or places of worship. Furthermore, they are considered as artworks or holy objects. Exhibition “Stroke” by Late Artist Luu Cong Nhan Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA) Level B1 – R3 Royal City, 72 Nguyen Trai, Thanh Xuan, Hanoi On the 10th anniversary of the death of artist Luu Cong Nhan, we would like to invite you to the art exhibition “Stroke” which presents 50 artworks by the late artist. Curated by the artist Le Thiet Cuong, the paintings have been selected from a collection of 400 Luu Cong Nhan artworks that belongs to the art collector Nguyen Phuc Huong – the largest collection of the late artist’s works to date. Free entry Exhibition of Heritage Documents from Nguyen Dynasty Hanoi Temple of Literature 58 Quoc Tu Giam, Hanoi This exhibition will present 3 heritage documents from the Nguyen Dynasty, which have been recognized as World Documentary Heritages (also known as Memory of the World programme) by UNESCO, whose programme was established in 1992. The exhibition consists of 70 visual realisations of texts printed on woodblocks, the Nguyen Kings’ administrative documents and poems about Hue’s Imperial city architecture. HO CHI MINH CITY PERFORMANCE Operetta Performance “Die Fledermaus” 8 pm, September 9 HCMC Opera House No. 7 Lam Son Square, D.1, HCMC The operetta is full of flirtations, identity obscurity at a ball and the upper class’ trivial deceptions, yet altogether delivered by the language of music, spoken dialogues, and ballet movements. Following its excellent premiere at the Autumn Melodies Arts Festival 2017, the operetta “Die Fledermaus” will return under the baton of conductor Tran Nhat Minh. Exhibition “Muted Conversations” by Dat Vu The Factory Contemporary Arts Centre 15 Nguyen U Di, Thao Dien, District 2, ‘Muted Conversations’ is an ongoing photography project by Dat Vu that explores the spirituality and superstitions surrounding rituals in modern day Vietnam. His photographic series includes both staged and candid images taken during his extensive travels across the country. This exhibition aims to address the significance of traditional cultural practices as Vietnam rapidly transitions into a new era of economic possibility. A Solo Exhibition by Ly Hoang Ly The Factory Contemporary Arts Centre 15 Nguyen U Di, Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City Come and join Ly Hoang Ly’s first solo exhibition, and most the comprehensive presentation of her work to date, as part of her on-going project ‘0395A.ĐC’. This multimedia, collaged body of work will showcase the artist’s ongoing inquiry into the epic story and continuous struggle of human (im)migration, whilst highlighting the contested nature of the memorisation, documentation and circulation of history. Exhibition “Future Bodies of Asia” Salon Saigon Heritage and Contemporary Art 6D Ngo Thoi Nhiem, Ward 7, Dist 3, HCMC The exhibition features video, installations and performances by three artists from Japan: Off-Nibroll, Fuyuki Yamakawa and Atsuhiro Ito. A special selection of video works by local artists Le Hoang Bich Phuong and Xuan Ha will also accompany the last presentation of this traveling project (first presented in Japan, then Singapore and Thailand since early 2017). On the Opening night, Fuyuki Yamakawa will also deliver a collaborative performance with local musician/producer Do Tan Si. This project is curated by Kenji Kubota. |
