VietNamNet Bridge – Thousands of objects dating back to different dynasties and excavated in the northern province of Nam Dinh, along with photos illustrating the history of the area, are on display at the provincial museum as part of the celebration of the city of Nam Dinh's 750th anniversary.

The objects, which include fragments of ceramics, pottery, and baked bricks, were found in more than 40 archaeological sites in the province. They date from the 1,000-year domination by northern invaders to the dynasties of Ly, Tran, Le and Nguyen. Objects excavated at the Tran Temple site are among the oldest and include traces of pottery ovens and round and square pillars.

Over 30 photos on display feature the Nam Dinh flag tower during its 200 years of existence, from its early days until its restoration in 1997 after it was destroyed by American bombing.

"Such broken objects are often thrown away after they are excavated," said museum director Nguyen Van Thu. "But these are important enough vestiges of cultural heritage to be preserved for visitors and research."

The exhibition also includes a section on the life of Princess Nguyen Thi Trinh, the first female hero of the province, who died in the war against the French occupants in 1873.
