Imported fresh pine trees for Christmas have become popular in Vietnam in recent years though fresh trees are much more expensive than artificial ones. Many shops in Hanoi and HCM City have begun selling fresh pine trees and receiving orders from customers.
Fresh pine tree products are mostly imported from Denmark, the Netherlands and China. Pine branches from China are priced at VND170,000-200,000/branch, while those from the Netherlands are sold per kilogram, equal to VND250,000-350,000/branch. A bunch of 5-6 branches imported from Denmark and the Netherlands are priced from VND1.8 million to VND2.2 million.
For trees, the prices depend on the height. In Hanoi, a pine tree of 1.25-2 meters is priced at VND4-7.5 million, and those 2-3 meters are sold for VND8.5-13.5 million. Trees of over 6 meters are priced up to VND150 million.
Ngoc Anh, a fresh pine tree seller in Hanoi, told VietNamNet that the market has become busy. She began taking orders for fresh trees in mid-October, which will be delivered in late November and early December. Her shop imports pine trees from Denmark. As they are carried by air, the trees can be displayed for 1.5 months or longer.
Ngoc Anh said customers usually order trees of moderate height to display at their apartments and houses, priced at VND5-14 million. Some have ordered tall trees, priced at over VND10 million for cafés and villas, and for display at hotels.
“I have eight orders for very tall pine trees,” Ngoc Anh said, adding that last year she mostly sold small pine trees.
Bui Van Thinh, another pine tree seller in Hanoi, said he had received orders for more than 30 pine trees valued at VND80 million or higher.
